Dear Friends,
Would you take a moment to ponder a Kingdom principle with me? It’s based on the concept of sowing and reaping.
2 Corinthians 9:6 instructs the followers to sow generously because sowing sparingly will yield poor results. The root of this instruction is faith, which Hebrews 11:1 describes as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith adds substance to hope and brings assurance to what our eyes cannot yet perceive.That’s where the challenge truly begins.
If we take the writer of Hebrews seriously throughout the rest of chapter 11, with his descriptions of the faith of Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and others, then we’re invited into a way of life that is challenging, exciting, disappointing, frustrating—and ultimately wonderful.
But do we live this way? Honestly, I think most of us do not.
We live in a goal-setting world. Is that inherently a problem? Not necessarily. But often, our faith gets squeezed into goal frameworks that leave little room for the Almighty to show up and do the extraordinary.
Take S.M.A.R.T. goals, for example—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound. These frameworks can be helpful in many contexts. But they rarely require bold, dependent faith. Think about it: if the heroes of Hebrews 11 had written S.M.A.R.T. goals, would they have even stepped into their callings?
- Noah would have waited for scientific proof of rain before building an ark.
- Abraham would have never left Ur without a detailed project timeline and GPS coordinates.
- Moses would have stayed in Midian, convinced that confronting Pharaoh was not a realistic deliverable.
- David would have listened to his older brother Eliab and never killed Goliath.
- Gideon would have gone to battle only after recruiting 32,000 troops, not reducing his army to 300.
Faith—real, audacious, faith that glorifies Him—rarely looks S.M.A.R.T. But it is faithful, fruitful, and eternal.
That’s what we want at MDE. We’re praying for vision that’s far bigger than our planning spreadsheets and whiteboard sessions can hold. We want to sow generously—our time, our talent, our finances, our leadership—because we believe the Almighty will bring the harvest in His way, in His time, for His glory.
