Volunteers

STRENGTHEN THOSE BUILDING
BUSINESS AND MISSION

Start a conversation

We’d love to explore volunteer opportunities with you.

While some are called to go—launching businesses or serving professionally in spiritually dark places, others are called to come alongside—using their experience to support those on the front lines.

MDE volunteers do exactly that.

Your experience can change someone else’s journey.

MDE volunteers invest their experience, wisdom, and encouragement in believers serving through business and professional work around the world. Whether you’re coaching, mentoring, advising, or serving behind the scenes, you’ll help members navigate real opportunities and real challenges as they build sustainable work and live out their calling.

Our volunteers are one of MDE’s greatest strengths. Their willingness to come alongside members makes it possible for MDE to provide deeply relational, highly personalized support that would otherwise be beyond the reach of most marketplace workers.

What volunteers do

There are three primary ways to serve as an MDE volunteer

Business Coaches

Work directly with members to strengthen business strategy, financial sustainability, and key decisions—offering ongoing guidance, encouragement, and accountability.

Missional Mentors

Provide spiritual encouragement and accountability as members integrate faith and work, pursue disciple-making, and care for their own spiritual and personal health.

Business or Missional Advisors

Offer specialized expertise at key moments—addressing business, missional, and personal needs as they arise.

This may include legal, financial, or marketing guidance, as well as areas like language learning, or cross-cultural life.

There is a fourth way to volunteer that is less common

MDE Staff Team

These vital roles hide in the background with the MDE staff team. They extend the reach and quality of support MDE provides across the whole network.

These roles vary based on experience and interest, and may include assisting with administrative processes, providing technical or systems support, supporting events or initiatives.

A few basics about fit

If you are…

  • An experienced professional with practical expertise
  • A mature believer who values disciple-making
  • Willing to invest in others through relationship and consistency
  • Comfortable offering guidance, perspective, and encouragement

….then volunteering could be a good fit.

If you are…

  • Looking for a short-term or one-time volunteer experience
  • Primarily interested in travel-based missions
  • Not available for ongoing relational engagement
  • Uncomfortable offering input or accountability
  • Primarily interested in growing your own client base

…then volunteering may not be a fit.

What volunteering actually looks like

Structured

Coaches and Mentors typically meet with a member once or twice per month for 60–90 minutes. Advisors engage as needed, offering input at key moments when their expertise is most relevant.

Relational

You’ll serve in an ongoing relationship—offering encouragement, perspective, and accountability as members navigate real challenges over time.

Manageable

You serve in a clearly defined role, with agreed expectations and boundaries—engaging at a level that fits your experience and availability.
