Prayer is at our core
MDE exists to support followers of Jesus who are building real businesses, pursuing real work, and living as faithful witnesses in places where the Gospel is least accessible. We bring coaching, mentoring, advising, and practical support—but we do not believe strategy alone can accomplish the work of God.
So we pray.
Prayer is not an add-on to the work of MDE. It is one of the ways we remember who God is, who we are, and what it means to join him in his mission. It is at the core of everything we do.
Prayer is a conversation with God
It is more than asking for help, though we do ask. It is more than bringing needs, though we bring many. Prayer is a shared life with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—a way of listening, surrendering, discerning, lamenting, rejoicing, and participating in the work God is already doing in the world.
Why do we pray?
We pray because God is the initiator of mission.
He is the one who loves the world, sends his people, opens doors, gives wisdom, sustains faith, and bears lasting fruit. Our work begins not with our plans, but with his invitation.
We pray because the people MDE serves are often working in complex places.
They are building businesses, teaching in universities, leading teams, navigating local systems, forming relationships, and seeking to live with authentic presence among people who may have little access to a living witness to Jesus. Their work requires skill, courage, patience, humility, and deep dependence on God.
We pray because prayer shapes us.
It moves us away from self-reliance and toward trust. It teaches us to pay attention to God’s activity. It enlarges our love for people and places we may never see in person. It reminds us that mission is not a project we manage, but a relationship of obedience and dependence.
We pray because God invites us to ask.
Scripture teaches us to pray for workers, for open doors, for boldness, for wisdom, for peace, for endurance, for justice, for provision, and for the advance of the Gospel. We do not pray as observers from a distance. We pray as members of the body of Christ, joining God’s people around the world in seeking his Kingdom.
Prayer impacts everything
Prayer impacts how we make decisions, how we serve client/members, how we recruit and support volunteers, how we steward resources, and how we measure fruitfulness. We want to be people who listen before we act, depend before we build, and give thanks as we witness God at work.

MDE Prays is a private, behind-the-curtain prayer publication for people who want to intercede more intentionally for MDE client/members, volunteers, staff, and the communities where God has placed them. Sent two to three times per week, each post offers a focused prayer invitation shaped by real needs, opportunities, and stories from the MDE community.
Because many MDE client/members live and work in sensitive places, subscriptions to MDE Prays require approval. We do not share names or specific locations; instead, we use regional references and carefully written details that help guide meaningful prayer while protecting the people and work entrusted to us.
How to Pray for God’s Work
in the Marketplace
The marketplace is one of the places where people spend their lives, build relationships, serve communities, and seek meaning. For MDE client/members, work is not separate from mission—it is one of the places where faithful presence becomes visible. These prayer prompts are offered as a starting place for intercession, shaped by Scripture and grounded in the real challenges and opportunities of working in places where the Gospel is least accessible. Choose one way to pray today, or use the prompts across a week as you ask God to bless businesses, workplaces, communities, and the people he has called to serve there.
Matthew 9:37-38
Pray for workers to be sent and sustained
Matthew records a teaching of Jesus in which he describes a plentiful harvest and a scarcity of laborers. Pray that God would raise up faithful women and men who are willing to bring their whole lives—their skills, professions, businesses, relationships, and worship—into his mission.
Pray also that those already serving would be strengthened, encouraged, and sustained for the long obedience required in difficult places.
Colossians 4:3
Pray for open doors for the Gospel
Paul asked believers to pray that God would open a door for the word. Pray that God would create natural, relational, and Spirit-led opportunities for MDE client/members to bear witness to Jesus in ways that are wise, clear, humble, and courageous.
Pray for conversations that are not forced, for trust that grows over time, and for hearts prepared to receive good news.
James 1:5
Pray for wisdom in complex decisions
Marketplace work often involves decisions about hiring, pricing, partnerships, compliance, leadership, culture, conflict, and sustainability. In cross-cultural contexts, those decisions can become even more complex.
Pray that God would give wisdom generously to those who ask. Pray for discernment that is both practical and spiritual, rooted in Scripture, guided by the Spirit, and attentive to local realities.
Jeremiah 29:7
Pray for businesses to bless their communities
God told his people in exile to seek the welfare of the city where he had sent them. Pray that MDE-supported businesses and professional roles would bring real good to the communities where they are located.
Pray for excellent products and services, fair employment, ethical leadership, healthy workplace cultures, and tangible contributions to local flourishing.
Matthew 5:16
Pray for authentic presence and faithful witness
MDE believes in real work, not cover. Pray that members would live and work with integrity, humility, and credibility. Pray that their presence would reflect the character of Christ in ordinary daily life.
Pray that their words and actions would align, and that neighbors, employees, colleagues, students, and customers would see something of God’s goodness through them.
Ephesians 6:18–20
Pray for protection and courage in challenging places
Many MDE client/members serve in places marked by spiritual resistance, isolation, instability, scrutiny, or personal risk. Pray for God’s protection over them, their families, their teams, their local partners, and the communities they serve.
Pray not only for safety, but also for courage—the kind that comes from knowing they are held by God.
Isaiah 58:6–12
Pray for justice, mercy, and healing
Some MDE client/members work among communities affected by poverty, trauma, displacement, exploitation, or conflict. Pray that God would bring healing and restoration through people, businesses, and initiatives that reflect his justice and mercy.
Pray for workplaces that protect dignity, create opportunity, and help people experience hope.
Matthew 9:37-38
Pray for unity and healthy relationships
Workplaces, teams, partnerships, families, and local relationships can all become places of pressure. Pray for humility, patience, forgiveness, and love. Pray for strong marriages, healthy families, wise friendships, and trustworthy local relationships.
Pray that MDE client/members would not serve along, but would experience the support and encouragement of the body of Christ.
