In today’s global mission landscape, partnership isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a necessity. One example of this is the growing collaboration between Shepherd’s Staff Mission Facilitators (SSMFI) and Marketplace and Development Enterprises (MDE), two organizations bringing complementary strengths to the mobilization and support of global missions.
Shepherd’s Staff is known for its distinctive model of empowering U.S.-based churches to send and care for their missionaries. Their approach emphasizes relational accountability and financial stewardship while allowing field workers the flexibility to serve in diverse and creative contexts—including business as mission (BAM).
Meanwhile, MDE offers business services and a relational network for believers using their professional skills to make disciples in global marketplaces. Through mentoring, business coaching, and organizational support, MDE equips professionals to thrive in their dual calling of making money and making disciples.
This past year, Shepherd’s Staff and MDE entered into a partnership to better serve members operating in BAM contexts. SSMFI members who are pursuing business opportunities abroad now have access to MDE’s specialized services—ranging from startup advising and business compliance to mentoring and cross-cultural support.
“MDE demonstrated a keen understanding of our church-centric mission approach, seamlessly integrating into our existing structures. This collaboration resulted in a strong partnership with mutual trust and respect.” –Andrew Lettsome, Member Services at SSMFI
“It is truly a Kingdom privilege to provide our BAM support services to Shepherd Staff’s dedicated workers on the field.” –Bill Burke, COO at MDE
“The partnership between SSMFI and MDE came at just the right time, as God was shifting my focus toward using BAM to reach and serve more people in Thailand. The services MDE provides have been essential in filling key gaps and supporting the growth of this work. I’m deeply grateful for the support and how my specific needs have been met in developing a business that advances Kingdom purposes in Thailand.” -SSMFI Member
This kind of collaboration represents a shift in how missions is being done today. No single organization can do it all. But when each one brings their best to the table—whether that’s sending infrastructure, business expertise, or member care—we’re able to more fully support God’s people in bringing the gospel to unreached places.
We’re encouraged by what’s been built together over the past year, and we look forward to forming similar partnerships with other mission agencies.
