And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Col 3:17, NIV)
In one simple sentence, the Apostle Paul captures our calling as disciples. We each have an enduring, daily mission – to say and do everything in Jesus’ name, and to be thankful for the blessing and privilege to do so. We’re each called to serve Him in specific ways. Yet our purpose is always the same. Plumbing and Mission. Parenting and Mission. Waiting tables and Mission. Studying and Mission. Teaching and Mission. Medicine and Mission. It’s the full-circle Christian life.
At MDE, we’re called to Business and Mission, often referred to as BAM. There are still many millions around the globe, in the least reached places, who will never encounter the gospel through typical evangelistic methods. In fact, they’re often forbidden in these areas. Courageous and faithful BAM entrepreneurs (BAMers) go and build thriving businesses there to portray in “deed” the gospel life as they serve their community, employ local workers, and build relationships. “Words” follow as the Holy Spirit allows.
MDE volunteers connect “and Mission” to their specific gifts, skills, and experience as they serve our BAMers through business mentoring, just-in-time technical expertise, missional support, encouragement, and accountability. And they’re blessed in the process.
Each day, we give thanks to God through Jesus for the deeds and words of our BAMers and for our faithful volunteers who support them. Tomorrow, and for eternity, those who experience the deeds and accept the words will give their own thanks to God for those who took the risks and made the sacrifices.
