MDE MENTORING ROLE
Our desire is that each MDE member be the person God has called them to be and do the things God has called them to do through his grace and power. Your role in that process is to “be a Barnabas” to the member you are mentoring—loving, supporting, and encouraging them as they seek to make disciples in their unreached community.
Key to Mentoring: Relationship
Mentoring is first and foremost about developing a relationship with your member built on a genuine interest in the member’s life and concern for the member’s growth as a follower of Jesus. The emphasis in this role is helping the member understand and believe that you are on his or her side. Through the mentoring process, over a period of time, the member will hopefully feel encouraged, empowered, and equipped to grow in their walk with God (using the IDP as a key tool) and to engage the community for Christ (using the Ministry Plan as a key tool). There will be times when you must, for the good of the member, speak some hard truths in love. However, that will usually not be effective unless a solid relationship has been established and a strong foundation of trust laid.
